Financial Review and Comparison Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Financial Review and Comparison - Research Paper Example For the purpose of this assignment I have chosen PepsiCo Inc and the Coca-Cola Company. Both are globally well recognized brands in beverage industry. Besides beverage brands, both the companies are offering additional products. Pepsi incorporation has established itself as a supplier of quality snacks products such as Lays and Cheetos on the other hand the Coca-Cola Company is offering brand in mineral water such as Kinley in competition to Aquafina, a mineral water product by Pepsi, fruit juices such as Pulpy Orange, coffee and other alcohol-free beverages. The performance of both competitors in the year 2012 has been analyzed with the help of the key ratios. Net profit margin is computed as net profit to sales, and sometimes also profit after tax to sales. It is always measured in terms of percentage. This ratio represents the ability of the management to provide the investors with a reasonable return on their investments (Mohapatra). A higher net profit ratio indicates the efficiency of the management to control the cost. When comparing both the companies on the basis of net profit ratio the Coca-Cola Company has generated 2.64% addition net profit than Pepsi which indicate better slightly tight control over costs. Gross profit can be defined as the profit remaining after all the directly related cost of sales or services have been deducted from the revenue. Directly attributable cost include only those cost which are necessary to produce the goods. It is also represented in terms of percentage. The higher the ratio the better is for the company (Gildersleeve). It is an important profitability ratio which indicates the margin between the revenue and the cost of the product. On the basis of gross profit margin Pepsi is much better than Coca-Cola. The GP ratio of Pepsi is 52.49% in comparison to the 44.09% in case of Coca-Cola. This reveals an important fact that the Pepsi Company is better in controlling manufacturing cost and the Coca-Cola Company

Death is not to be Feared :: essays research papers
Could I possibly die tomorrow? In a week? Or do I still have many years ahead of me? These are some questions many people often ask themselves. The fear of death affects many individuals, but it certainly didn?t affect a philosopher by the name of Socrates. He argued that death is not to be feared and personally I both agree and disagree with him. Death, it surrounds us, it could be waiting for us at any corner, whether it is a car swerving out of control, a heart attack, or a nasty slip on ice, we tend to try not thinking about it too much, but it?s something unavoidable, something we all eventually come to. I believe that pretty much everyone dreads it in one way or another. I also believe that it is the unknown that many people really fear, the uncertainty of what comes next if anything. For most people there?s always the question of what comes after they die. Some believe that there?s a place reserved for them up in the sky and their life will continue, others think it leads to a state of peace and reconciliation. No one really knows, and that is what scares people that most. The uncertainty of it is truly nerve racking. They can theorize and think about it as much as they want but it is still an unknown event. Another reason that leads to a fear of death is the actual event of dying. It is because dying can involve a great deal of suffering and pain. Drowning, being burnt alive, and being strangled are the ways of dying that engage in an imaginable agonizing physical pain. I?m sure that anyone who has thought about death has also thought about how their own lives may come to an end. I personally wonder about how I will move on from this world, asking myself questions such as: ?will it hurt? or ?will it happen in my sleep No one wants to suffer and the thought of any kind of pain before dying is very frightening. Even though death is something extremely mysterious, maybe it?s not the death people fear, but dying unprepared. They become anxious because of the fact that there are so many things they wish to accomplish in their lives, so many things they haven?t done. I think this is where the fear of death can be even further coded into their minds. Death is not to be Feared :: essays research papers Could I possibly die tomorrow? In a week? On the Sidewalk Bleeding by Evan Hunter
On the Sidewalk Bleeding Critical Essay Marianne Lavery The story ââ¬Å"On the sidewalk bleedingâ⬠by Evan Hunter deals with the issue of identity through the central character Andy, a young gang member who struggles with his identity as his death draws near. A young boy called Andy who left a nightclub to go and get cigarettes. He started walking through the alley when suddenly he got stabbed. As he got stabbed he heard a voice saying ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s for you Royal! Andy had always been proud to be a Royal because the Royals and the guardians were two of the biggest and he was a Royal. Now as he lay dying on the sidewalk with the rain surrounding him, he thought of being a Royal but now all he wanted to be was Andy. It is evident that Andy had felt very proud to be a member of the Royals: ââ¬Å"The Royals and the Guardians, two of the biggest. He was a Royal there had been meaning to the titleâ⬠. I think Andy was too involved in the Royals to understand that it was o nly a gang name and his life was ending at sixteen because of it. Andy decided to join the gang in the first place because it made him powerful, it made him feel like he was somebody. The extent of his pride was shown when it said: ââ¬Å"Even in his pain, there had been some sort of pride in knowing he was a Royal! â⬠This tells the reader that he didnââ¬â¢t regret ever becoming a Royal. A young person like Andy would join a gang so that they would feel safe from other gangs. Additionally, if they were in a gang they would feel important to be a member of that gang as it would give them a sense of belonging. After Andy was stabbed and he realized that he was going to die, he began to resent his identity as a Royal and just wanted to be known as Andy. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m Andy; he screamed wordlessly, Iââ¬â¢m Andyâ⬠. As Andy lay there dying, alone in the dark he wanted to shout out ââ¬Å"Hey, Iââ¬â¢m alive! Hey look at me! Iââ¬â¢m alive! Donââ¬â¢t you know Iââ¬â¢m alive? Donââ¬â¢t you know I exist? â⬠Andy was so frustrated and confused. ââ¬Å"He felt very weak and tiredâ⬠. As every second went by, Andy got increasingly weaker. Andyââ¬â¢s identity as a Royal not only got him stabbed it also prevented people from helping him as they walked past. An example of this was when Angela and Freddie came along and they saw him on the pavement hurt. They were going to hep him but as soon as they realised that he was a Royal, they quickly changed their minds. They said ââ¬Å"if we get a cop, the Guardians will find out who. â⬠I thought this was very cowardly and selfish of them to leave him there, dying just because they were scared. Andy knew he was at deaths door but he didnââ¬â¢t want them to find him and say ââ¬Å"oh heââ¬â¢s a Royal! â⬠So with great difficulty and determination, he rolled over onto his back. He felt the pain tearing at his stomach when he moved. He lay struggling with the shiny, wet jacket. Pain ripped fire across his body whenever he moved. He squirmed and fought and twisted until one arm was free and then the other. Taking this purple jacket off with the lettering on the back that read ââ¬Å"THE ROYALSâ⬠was very important to Andy because this jacket had ended his life at only sixteen years old. The final part of this story was very sad because Andy died. Andyââ¬â¢s girlfriend found him first, but when he did not answer her, she ran until she found a cop. The first thing the cop said when he looked at Andyââ¬â¢s dead body was, ââ¬Å"A Royal, huh? â⬠So Andy didnââ¬â¢t even get his final wish, which was to be remembered as just Andy. By reading this story it has made me think about my own identity and I have realized how important it is to keep out of trouble. As I most definitely do not want to be in the same situation as Andy was.

Feeling Colorss Creative Writing Feeling Colors
Feeling Colors ââ¬Å"Hey Wes, did you remember to get some more drop cloths and paints?â⬠Wes groaned, knowing that if he admitted to forgetting the supplies he would disappoint Tina, his wife. ââ¬Å"Well, itââ¬â¢s not as if I forgot, rather, I wasâ⬠¦ distracted? Yeah! EMTââ¬â¢s were called to the store to resuscitate a rat that had a heart attack. It was no ordinary rat, actually; it was an emotional support rat. Tragic, really.â⬠Wes said rather unconvincingly. Tina chuckled, amused by Wesââ¬â¢s clumsy attempt to cover himself. ââ¬Å"Yes, and Iââ¬â¢m sure that Ratatouille was there too, making soup.â⬠Tina paused, looked at Wesââ¬â¢s embarrassed face, and let him off the hook. ââ¬Å"Look, itââ¬â¢s fine. We can always get them later.â⬠Wes breathed a sigh of relief, and kissed hisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He was stripped from his happy, comfortable life and dumped in this twisted new reality in which there was no escape. He stood out, with his white cane and dark glasses. He could feel the stares as he walked along the street, the hairs on his neck standing straight. The feeling of incompetence was destructive, not just to him, but to his wife as well. Tina was always with him every waking moment, talking him through every problematic event - from accidentally stepping on the cat to a close encounter with death. Tina and Wes were walking to their favorite neighborhood cafe when Tina was distracted by some lovely bright fuschia tulips planted along the sidewalk. She bent over to admire them, without noticing that wes continued walking. When she looked up she was horrified to see Wes stepping out onto the street. One block away, a Tesla Roadster was speeding down the street directly towards him. With a shriek, Tina leaped in Wesââ¬â¢s direction and pulled him away to safety as the Tesla raced past, mere inches from them. A badly shaken Wes tried to make light of his brush with death. ââ¬Å"The quiet ones will get you every time,â⬠he joked. And then he began sobbing uncontrollably. Wes was unusually quiet for several days after his encounter with the Tesla. Tina, who had become accustomed to her husbandââ¬â¢s erratic moods since losing his sight, saw something new and worrisome in his behavior. Before, even when he had
