Feeling Colors â€Å"Hey Wes, did you remember to get some more drop cloths and paints?† Wes groaned, knowing that if he admitted to forgetting the supplies he would disappoint Tina, his wife. â€Å"Well, it’s not as if I forgot, rather, I was†¦ distracted? Yeah! EMT’s were called to the store to resuscitate a rat that had a heart attack. It was no ordinary rat, actually; it was an emotional support rat. Tragic, really.† Wes said rather unconvincingly. Tina chuckled, amused by Wes’s clumsy attempt to cover himself. â€Å"Yes, and I’m sure that Ratatouille was there too, making soup.† Tina paused, looked at Wes’s embarrassed face, and let him off the hook. â€Å"Look, it’s fine. We can always get them later.† Wes breathed a sigh of relief, and kissed his†¦show more content†¦He was stripped from his happy, comfortable life and dumped in this twisted new reality in which there was no escape. He stood out, with his white cane and dark glasses. He could feel the stares as he walked along the street, the hairs on his neck standing straight. The feeling of incompetence was destructive, not just to him, but to his wife as well. Tina was always with him every waking moment, talking him through every problematic event - from accidentally stepping on the cat to a close encounter with death. Tina and Wes were walking to their favorite neighborhood cafe when Tina was distracted by some lovely bright fuschia tulips planted along the sidewalk. She bent over to admire them, without noticing that wes continued walking. When she looked up she was horrified to see Wes stepping out onto the street. One block away, a Tesla Roadster was speeding down the street directly towards him. With a shriek, Tina leaped in Wes’s direction and pulled him away to safety as the Tesla raced past, mere inches from them. A badly shaken Wes tried to make light of his brush with death. â€Å"The quiet ones will get you every time,† he joked. And then he began sobbing uncontrollably. Wes was unusually quiet for several days after his encounter with the Tesla. Tina, who had become accustomed to her husband’s erratic moods since losing his sight, saw something new and worrisome in his behavior. Before, even when he had
